Have you been curious about chakras and wondered if you could teach children about them? The yoga poses below, which are coupled with positive affirmations, are associated with each of the seven chakras. In yogic philosophy, the seven chakras that run in a straight line from the base of the spine to the crown of your head make up the subtle body, which holds all the energy that affects your mind, body, and spirit. Though the chakras are developing throughout your life, children and teens are not too young to begin to understand the basics concepts of chakras. These chakra yoga poses below can help them tune in to their own health and wellness. Chakra yoga poses —including hip-opening poses, back bends, and inversions—ultimately help get the energy flowing throughout their bodies. A deeper understanding of their wholistic selves can be part of building a healthy life. Try these poses below and say the affirmation associated with the pose, feeling the truth of the statement each time.

C hakras have been central to many ancient healing practices for centuries. The chakra is like a funnel that radiates energy out from the spinal column and, when balanced, allow us to feel health y and in flow. Most teachings about the chakra system available today are based on the Indian Tantra yoga tradition and are believed to be around years old. This tradition also explains that the seven chakra centres throughout the body act a bit like lungs, breathing in vital energy and distributing it through the body. Chakras are so central to wellness that it makes sense to teach our children about them. The chakra system can be taught to children, especially as a wonderful way to introduce them to yoga or to help them reconnect with themselves and understand their own needs for experiencing wellbeing. Children are much more open and receptive to energy than adults, and childhood is a great time to help them to become aware, understand and communicate the sensations they experience and how they are affected by the energy in their internal and external worlds. How your kids think, feel and act is affected by the energy flowing through their chakras.
The following meditation has been kid-tested on my own three children ages and is suitable for all ages including adults who want to feel like a kid Children love learning about and working with the chakras, because the chakras are body-based and are each associated with colors, nature elements, sounds, and visualizations. However, the focus when working with children is different than with adults. Kundalini exercises designed to urge energy up through the chakras are not appropriate, as they evolved as part of spiritual practices for adults, whose physical and subtle bodies are fully developed. In addition, many children find chakra breathing exercises pranayama too restrictive or over-stimulating.
Kids, just like adults, need time everyday to connect into their power and access the spiritual energies that are available to them. Adults, or children with experience, have the ability to sit still in meditation to rejuvenate themselves. Kids, however, tend to not have the patience for sitting still, especially after a long day at school being told to do exactly that! At the end, they feel safe, protected, and balanced. Their natural sweetness rises to the surface and they are more themselves, their true selves, the magnificent beings they really are.
